Event narrative

Although Christianity had been established in the West for several centuries, the isolation of the high Alpine valleys probably delayed its local organization. In 1080, however, the churches of the three villages of the Ferrand valley are clearly mentioned in the sources, all attached to the Abbey of Oulx. In Mizoën, the church appears under the name Ecclesia de Misoen, a sign that a stable parish structure was already in place. This church was not then located on the present site: it stood farther north of the village. The building visible today dates from the 19th century, but the continuous existence of a church in Mizoën is attested from at least the 11th century, revealing an old and lasting religious organization despite the mountainous and isolated character of the territory.
