Event narrative

The plague deeply marked the history of Mizoën and the entire upper valley. In 1348, the scourge decimated nearly half the population of Oisans, durably disrupting life in the mountain villages. Transmitted by rats and fleas, the disease reappeared at the end of the 15th century, in 1493 and again in 1497, reviving fear and losses. Infectious outbreaks persisted between 1518 and 1535, proof that the threat never completely disappeared. Even in the 17th century, the danger remained present: in June 1630, the plague struck the village of Le Dauphin once more, reminding the inhabitants of Mizoën how long these epidemics had been part of their daily history.
