Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Christophe de Mizoën

Information
The Saint-Christophe church of Mizoën was entirely rebuilt in 1889, thanks notably to the generous donations of the Carthusian Fathers, and was blessed on May 6, 1890. It replaced an older building, and a church was already located in Mizoën in 1080! In 1703, the church, which was located further north than today, was deemed to be in too poor a condition. The new location, built on the old cemetery — the only place flat enough for such a building facing a population of more than 400 faithful —, is particularly striking: it is a neo-Romanesque building made of schist, natural cement and tufa, which stands at the top of a hill and overlooks the lake and the valley, serving as a landmark at the entrance to the Ferrand valley. After being seriously endangered, this emblematic building was fortunately restored in 2022 after several years of work.
