Event narrative

In 1338, after the medieval demographic optimum, epidemics and a harsh climate set in, causing a decline in human activity and bitter competition for resources. That year, animals from Villar-d’Arène were found on the slopes of Monêtier-les-Bains, coming from Arsine. In retaliation, the inhabitants of Monêtier descended upon the Alpe of Villar-d’Arène, killing livestock, looting houses, and beating the inhabitants. The tensions lasted until April 30, 1551, when royal justice ruled in favor of the Faranchins for the use of the Alpe. The deed, jealously preserved, was even copied in 1763.
