Event narrative
The Dauphins, undisputed sovereigns of Oisans, often used the Lautaret route to reach Briançon. On May 18, 1334, Humbert II, the last Dauphin, crossed the valley. His armed procession, large horses, sumptuous fabrics, and the stature of this prince (at once Count of Albon, Duke of Champsaur, and Prince of the Briançonnais) must have deeply impressed the inhabitants. For the shepherds of Villar-d’Arène, these passages offered a rare and memorable spectacle.
