Villar-d'Arène: the Romanche downstream of its source

This photograph, taken by Émile Duchemin (1862-1914) between 1890 and 1914, shows the Romanche River at Villar-d'Arène. Duchemin titled this photo "Sources of the Romanche", although the true source of the river is actually higher in altitude. This place is much less wooded today than it was at the time of the shooting.
