This photograph, taken in 1885, brings together renowned guides and mountaineers. One recognizes, at the top: P. Gaspard, Giraud-Lézin, Rodier, E. Zsigmondy. In the middle: P. Vincent, F. Chancel, O. Zsigmondy, M. Purtscheller, M. Kellerbauer. At the bottom: P. Engelbach, Dr. Schulz and G. Leser. Unfortunately, Emil Zsigmondy will lose his life two days later during an ascent of the Meije. This image is a photogravure by M. Berthaud, made from a shot by Joseph Lemercier, published in the Yearbook of the French Alpine Club of 1885.
