The Fairies and the Origin of the Wind

The Legend's Story
Legends of fairies are often seen as remnants of Gaulish, pre-Christian beliefs. Place names like "Fairies' Garden" or "Fairies' Stone" are still found in the commune. According to legend, on a stormy winter morning, three women were walking through the streets of Villar, struggling against the freezing gusts. They met a good fairy who asked: "What can I do to help you?" The women replied: "O good fairy, make it so there is no more wind." The fairy agreed: "Very well. Give me one of your aprons!" The oldest woman refused, saying she needed hers for her old age. The tallest suggested the smaller women give theirs to save fabric. The most beautiful wanted to keep hers for dancing in the summer. None would part with their apron, and so the wind continues to blow!
