The Mystery of the Curry Comb
The Legend's Story
In Pied-du-Col, a man owned a horse he never bothered to groom. Suddenly, the horse began appearing radiant and brushed every morning. Intrigued, the owner and two friends hid in the stable with candles to catch the secret groomer. They heard the sound of the comb and the horse breathing contentedly. When they burst in, the candles blew out. A struggle ensued in the dark where the master was slapped by an invisible hand. In the morning, they found no one— just the horse half-groomed. It was a "folaton" (hobgoblin). The master concluded: "For once someone was doing my work for me... one should never try to know too much."
