Chapelle Sainte-Brigitte des Pénitents

Information
The Chapelle Sainte-Brigitte des Pénitents is a place steeped in history and spirituality. According to the archives, an old Sainte-Brigitte chapel, located in the commune, was swept away by a landslide. A new chapel was built in 1752, thanks to the efforts of Paul Roumieux, a local merchant, and was blessed by Jean de Caulet, bishop and Prince of Grenoble. Known as Chapelle des Pénitents des Cours, its title of Sainte-Brigitte would have been attributed to it recently, according to the testimonies of the inhabitants. In front of the chapel stood a wooden mission cross, which was moved to the east to make room for an EDF substation, itself now gone. The precise status of this building in the parish of Villar-d'Arène remains to be determined.
