Former Hamlet of Le Dauphin

Information
Approximate site of the old hamlet Le Dauphin, which disappeared during the filling of the dam in May 1935. A robust bridge spanned the Romanche here, and it sometimes becomes visible again when the lake level is very low. The hamlet would have been named in honor of the Dauphin Humbert who would have founded a hospice at this strategic point of the Bourg-d'Oisans–Briançon passage. There were up to two hospices, that of the Dauphin and that of the Fays. A diversion canal of the Romanche also powered two mills. The village was located next to slate quarries. The chapel was called Saint-Antoine.
