Cardinal Le Camus
Biography
Étienne Le Camus was a Cardinal and Bishop of Grenoble from 1671 until his death. Seen from Mizoën, he was a character "from above" but essential for understanding the late 17th century. During his pastoral visit in 1672, he discovered a solidly organized Protestant community. In 1686, he celebrated the collective conversion of 330 Huguenots in Mizoën with a spectacular ceremony. His visits and ceremonies fix the image of a Mizoën on the edge of a tipping point, precisely when a social world was undoing itself.
