Event narrative
On March 18, 1510, the knight Bayard halted at La Grave during his first mission as captain. With his 500 Dauphinois, he was heading to Italy to wage war. It is highly probable that the Faranchins were requisitioned to clear the snow from the road to the Lautaret. While peddling and trade had formerly enriched the valley, the passage of men of war in the 16th century ruined it. These tumults nevertheless left a deep mark on the local memory: even at the beginning of the 20th century, legends recalled the passage of troops during the Italian Wars.
