The Meije seen from the Lautaret Pass in 1799

This watercolor by Barthélémy Chaix, dated 1799, is probably the first representation of the Meije. One sees the Lautaret Pass Hospice in the foreground, with the schematic profile of the mountain in the background. This work is thus the oldest known to date showing the Meije.
