Moulin

Information
The Mill, located in the commune of Villar, has had an eventful history. Over the years, several mills were built in different sites, but were destroyed by landslides or floods of the Romanche. The cadastre of 1810 mentions an 'old mill', which included two mills with millstones of different sizes. The drive system, also operating the bolter, was composed of a horizontal paddle wheel and a wooden gear. Housing for the miller, called 'Chambre', as well as an independent room for the hulling millstone, were added to the construction. The Gonnet brothers bought the mills around 1870 and, after their death, their widow and daughter continued to operate them with the help of local millers. The mill finally ceased its activity in 1955. It is interesting to note that the capstan system is unique in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
